A SERVICE of remembrance was held at St Peter's Church at 3pm on Sunday, November 10. Members of the Forthampton & District Royal British Legion were in attendance. The standards were presented and the bearers were Jean Mansfield and Richard Ascough. The lesson was read by Mr K Yeaman. In his sermon the vicar, Reverend Chris Moss reminded us all of the ultimate price paid by millions of people in wars and conflicts around the world in the last century. A collection was made which will benefit Legion funds. The service concluded at the war memorial where the names of all those who gave their lives in two World Wars were read out. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the British Legion men's and women's sections, the village hall, parish council and cricket club, the last post and reveille were sounded by John Lampitt. more...

A well attended benefice All-Souls Tide service was held at Forthampton Church on Sunday, November 3 at 6pm. The service was led by members of the local ministry team with hymns and readings that were both reflective and thoughtful combined with a sense of hope and thanksgiving. The choir sang the anthem The Lord bless You and keep You by John Rutter, the vicar Reverend David Bowers gave the sermon and the reader Mary-Ann Preece led by the prayers after which the names of the departed were read. The collection was donated to Winston's Wish, a Gloucestershire organisation that works with bereaved children and young people. The local ministry team hopes to make this an annual service with each church in the benefice taking turns to host it. more...

ON Monday, November 4 Mr John Frith from the Instrumental Music Service visited Longdon St Mary's School and entertained the children by demonstrating a wide range of brass instruments. Mr Frith is offering an opportunity for interested children from years 4, 5 and 6 to attend a `have a go' workshop on Monday, November 25 from 3.30-4.30pm. There will be no charge for this activity. He will then return to school on Monday, December 2 at 3.30pm to meet parents and children who are interested in taking up an instrument. Lessons will commence in the spring term. more...
