YOUR report last week (November 15) of the public meeting to discuss the M50 junction near Pendock did not mention that a letter had been read out from me; this letter included the words, "My initial reaction is that the B4208 already provides adequate access to the M50 at Junction 2 and that therefore the proposed new slip road is unnecessary". A DOUBLE bill gave members of Staunton & District Over 60's Club a very enjoyable meeting with a curio and keepsake exhibition followed by Gary's Musical Movements. £200 was raised with the club's recent sale towards funding their Christmas party in December, which takes the form of a lunch. A demonstration of flower arranging by two well known local flower arrangers Pat Lewis and Gwen Pugh resulted in three beautiful arrangements which were sold afterwards to offset part of the cost of flowers.   more...

WE were amazed to hear that Simon Chorley has given over 200 talks on the Summerfield Collection over the past 13 years. Our village hall was the venue for the most recent one on Friday, November 15. Ron Summerfield was the curmudgeonly antiques dealer who was born in Derbyshire but who ran his business from Cheltenham for most of his life. His vast collection of antiques, when sold, amassed over £20 million and Simon Chorley from Bruton Knowles, along with other auctioneers, had the job of sorting and selling these goods. It was a most interesting talk with a few slides and those people present were given an insight into the monumental task that the auctioneers faced with the Summerfield Collection.   more...

LAST Sunday's pudding evening proved to be a great success. Young and old were able to meet with friends, listen to the very enjoyable music provided by the quartet from the Bishop of Hereford's School and consume huge quantities of the delicious puddings provided. The £300 raised for church funds was a bonus to a very popular evening. The raffle raised £50, thank you to all who donated a prize and contributed towards the evening's success.   more...

WHAT a tremendous effort for our auction of goods and promises last Friday. We certainly did show the county what a small village can achieve. Our thanks to Jill and Julie (our hosts at The Farmers Arms) and to our brilliant auctioneer Brian Woodcock and his very able clerk. A big thank you to everyone who pledged items and goodies, bidding was very keen with all lots being sold. At the end of the evening we had realised the staggering total of £957. Truly amazing.
