Wiseman deal

ROBERT Wiseman Dairies which has a major plant in Droitwich said extra business with supermarket Tesco had helped boost sales in its first quarter.

Glasgow-based Wiseman said it was pleased with sales resulting from its new contract with the UK's number one grocer, which contributed to a 12 per cent rise in overall sales volumes between April and June.

It added that its new extended life "Pure" milk had made a "promising start" since it was launched last month with sales in line with expectations.

Peacocks style

RETAILER Peacock today said a drive to stock more fashionable products had boosted womenswear at its core high street chain as it reported a "satisfactory" start to the year.

Like-for-like sales at Peacocks were 4.3 per cent higher in the first quarter of its financial year as it benefited from an overhaul.

Women were snapping up cheaper versions of clothes in the style of icons like actress Sienna Miller after the chain changed its focus from being a "basics" business towards more fashionable ranges.

Little Chef bid

A RESTAURANT entrepreneur was today reported to be lining up a bid of up to £55m for more than 100 Little Chef roadside diners.

Lawrence Wosskow, who founded Out of Town restaurants, is said to be in exclusive talks with Little Chef's private equity owner Permira. The 118 sites would be worth between £53m and £55 m.
