Morgans set off on UK tour

From the archive, first published Friday 8th Jul 2005.

Four Morgan three- wheeler cars are setting off from Malvern on a 1,600-mile tour of Britain.

The trip, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the owners' club, begins at 9am tomorrow (Saturday) at British Camp.

Taking part are Roger Orford and Mike Duncan of Cradley, Brian Clutterbunk of Bosbury and Londoner Oliver Brooke.

The journey is expected to take two weeks.

"We hope Morgan owners from all over the country will join us for various stages," said Mr Clutterbunk.

"It's just one of the celebratory events for our 60th anniversary."

The team should be back by Sunday, July 17, in good time for the Morgan Three Wheeler Club's diamond jubilee celebrations in Malvern from September 22 to 26.

Mr Clutterbunk expects around 150 members to take part in activities including a scenic run to Stoke Lacy, barn dance at the Chase and dinner at the Abbey Hotel.

The club's 60th AGM will also be held and members will drive to Westons Cider, in Much Marcle, and visit the Morgan factory.

Mr Clutterbunk said Morgan three-wheelers were appealing because they were vintage cars.

"We're pleased people stop and look at them because it's a marvel that they're still around," he said.

"I don't know if that's a tribute to Morgan or the persistence of the owners."

Three-wheelers were the first cars made by Morgan, between 1909 and 1952. The company started making four-wheel cars in 1934.

The Morgan Three Wheeler Club is ten years older than its four-wheel equivalent.
